I'm Joe Kramar — and everything on this site exists because I got tired of watching this industry learn things the hard way when it didn't have to.
Explore the VaultI'm not here to sell you a course and disappear. I'm here to hand you the stuff most of this industry never gets shown — the techniques, the specs, the decisions — and help you actually use it to build something real.
Whether that's through a tool that gives you an instant answer, a live session where I dig into your specific problem, or standing on a stage at a trade show teaching a room full of people who are hungry for it — the job is the same: close the gap between "nobody taught me this" and "I've got this handled."
That's the whole mission. Not brand loyalty, not gatekeeping, not selling you a dream. Just real knowledge, handed over straight.
I'll be honest with you about how this all started: as a curious (fine, a little rebellious) kid, I got fascinated with figuring out how an ID card was put together — the layers, the holographic lamination, all of it. I wasn't trying to cause trouble, I just needed to know how something worked. Turns out that same itch — pull it apart, understand every layer, put it back together better — is exactly what's driven my entire career. I just found a much more productive place to point it.
My real start was in 1995, at a small screen print and embroidery shop called Driscoll's Sports. Thirty years later, I've done embroidery, appliqué, screen print, and special-effects development work for names like Abercrombie & Fitch, Limited Brands, Aritzia, Bruce Lee Ltd., Marshall Retail, V.F. Outdoor — and yes, NASA. I hold an M.A. and a B.S., but if you want the honest version: I've spent three decades solving problems most people never even knew existed until I pointed them out.
Along the way I picked up video animation and audio/video production too, because apparently one creative obsession was never going to be enough for me.
Here's why this matters to you and not just my resumé: I've worked inside global-factory-level production and inside scrappy domestic shops running on duct tape and determination.
I know what both worlds actually require, and — more importantly — I know exactly where domestic shops get stuck trying to hit factory-level quality without factory-level resources. That gap is where every tool, every course, and every Bench session on this site lives.
I'm brand-agnostic on purpose. I'm not here representing one machine manufacturer or one software company — I'm here representing you and your bottom line. That's also why you'll find me speaking at trade shows and industry events: not to pitch a product, but because a room full of shop owners hungry for real answers is exactly the room I want to be in.
Development and design work along the way has touched brand names including Abercrombie & Fitch, Limited Brands, Aritzia, Bruce Lee Ltd., Marshall Retail, V.F. Outdoor, and NASA — plus licensed programs for the NBA, NFL, NASCAR, Nintendo, and Playboy. Most of what I actually built for those names will never see daylight — a lot of it's locked behind NDA or licensing — but the training that came from doing the work stuck around, and that's what's in every tool and session on this site.
“Extremely knowledgeable regarding fabrics, garments, decorating techniques and retail systems… a leader and team player.”
“Extremely knowledgeable in the world of digitizing, embroidery, design, and product development… led a talented group of digitizers and was always first to take on new challenges.”
“An excellent creative problem solver… very technical, but able to think outside the box.”
I live in Phoenix, AZ with my wife April, a Colorado native who's somehow still willing to hear me talk about thread specs at dinner. The only thing I've done longer than apparel decoration is play guitar and sing — I've performed in jazz bands, funk bands, and even punk rock bands over the years. Those stories are for another page.
My intention here is simple — help you get the most out of your business with appliqué, textured fabric, and the production and scaling practices that actually work. No guesswork. No sales pitch dressed up as education. Just thirty-three years of hard-won answers, finally in one place.
